What is the shelf life of your products?

Our flours are best is used within 6 months of the mill date, which is stamped on every package. The shelf life can be extended by storing the products in a cool, dark place and/or in airtight containers.

What does the date on the package mean?

The date on the package is the date when the flour was milled, or the whole berries were packaged.

Are your products Organic?

We produce both Organic and conventional flours and grains. Any products that are labeled "Organic" are USDA Organic Certified. Some products are Regenerative Organic Certified®, which means they meet the standards of USDA Organic certification, plus additional benchmarks related to the three major pillars of regenerative organic agriculture (soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness).

All of the grains we use are non-GMO and are grown on family farms in New England and New York State. They serve as cover crops, making our soil and water healthy and supporting a resilient local food system.

Do you add folic acid or other enrichments to your products?

No, there are no additives in our flours and grains.

Do your farmers use glyphosate on their grains?

No.

Our wholesale sell sheet is available for download here.

Why can't I order a 50 pound bag for shipping?

Shipping rates for boxes heavier than 50 pounds are prohibitively expensive. We have created our 45 pound bags to ensure a lower shipping rate and to save you money. In fact, we offer free shipping on all 45 pound bags.

Why are 45 pound bags more expensive than 50 pound bags?

The prices for the 45 pound bags include the cost of shipping.

What's so special about stone-milling?

Roller milling is the practice used by industrial flour mills, a process that mechanically removes and discards the bran and germ and leaves behind only the starchy endosperm of a grain kernel.

Stone milling gently crushes and maintains all three parts of the total kernel. Our bolted flours are then sifted to remove a portion, but not all, of the bran and germ, resulting in a highly nutritious, flavorful, and workable flour.

Our whole grain flours are unsifted, and contain 100% of the whole grain. Our bolted flours are “high extraction” meaning a high percentage of the whole grain (approximately 83%) remains in every bag of flour we mill.

How do I know which flour to use for my recipe?

Please see our product descriptions for suggestions about which flours work best for your different baking needs.

Do you have a baker's hotline?

Not exactly, but if you have a question or need to troubleshoot a recipe using our products, send an email to baker@groundupgrain.com and we'll do our best to help you!
